Holiday Concerts

Our Holiday Concerts were great fun!  Especially for our senior members who will perform Hallelujah Chorus next year as alumni (if they happen to be in town and available to join us on stage).  We hope everyone enjoyed the show.  Exams went very well for every high school group.  (Show Choir remember to bring the final piece of your first semester exam with you when we return to school on January 4th).  Junior School Exams will be during the second week of January.

Upcoming events:
Show Choir singer/dancers have an after-school rehearsal on January, 10th from 3:30pm until 5 pm
to practice our competition show costume changes
(remember to bring all of your costume pieces and parts- including shoes).

Show Choir also has a workshop during the afternoon of Saturday, January 12th at Hamilton High School with an evening performance at 6:30 pm (we will perform the ballad and competition closer)

Our first competition is scheduled at Piqua on Saturday, January 19th.  As soon as we receive our performance time(s), we will have more information posted here and sent home with students.

Summer Show Choir Payments and Measurement Date

All show choir students for the 2012-2013 school year should pay their $200 fee before school begins.  This fee is used to purchase costumes and registration fees for competition.  We have found a better constructed black dress (dress number two) for our ladies for the same price.  So we will need a summer measurement for all of the ladies who can attend on Wednesday, July 25th at the Activity Center Music Room at 7pm.  See you there!

SCA

Two members of our show choir (Harrison Harmonics) attended the week long Showchoir Camps of America in Decatur, Il along with Mrs. Purdy.  Our music boosters generously volunteered to afford this opportunity for our dance/section captains to attend the week of learning.  At camp, our students were placed in a group with over 70 other top show choir students from around the country.  There were nine such groups and approximately 700 students at camp.  These students were taught music and choreography by the leading vocal and dance clinicians in the country.  In addition they were treated to a concert each night and a special interest session each day to help them focus on one particular aspect of their performance.  Can you spot Andrea and Johnny in these rehearsal pictures?

Looking Ahead

At this time, the schedule for Harrison Voices is Show Choir during high school zero bell, JS singers during 2nd bell, Wildcat Concert Choir during 3rd bell and Treble Cats during 4th bell.  Mrs. Purdy will be teaching creative writing and classical mythology after lunch.   Sixth graders will no longer be included in Harrison Voices.
I will publish our schedule of events for next year as soon as possible.  Enjoy the Summer.  Keep an eye out for our summer posts from Show Choir Camps of America.  Our Show Choir will start the year off with a car wash during the High School Open House on August 20th.  The proceeds from this Car Wash will help us purchase music.

Wrapping it Up

Our first year at Harrison Voices is coming to a close.  If you haven't had a chance yet to check progress book, please look before next week.  If your grade is not what you expect, you may have a missing assignment (the Showcase make-up, floating assignment and IWAA points seem to be the big culprits).  I will accept work all the way through Thursday of next week- but the high school and junior school are on special schedules, so finding me ay be a challenge.  On Tuesday I will make a round of all of the elementary schools at lunchtime to check my mailbox for late or make-up work.  Then I will be at the high school all afternoon for exam review.

Enjoy Spring Break/ Nashville was Great!!

We hope that everyone enjoys their Spring Break this week and comes back fresh and ready to sing.  Here are some pictures from our Nashville trip.  A few pictures are outside RCA Studio B where we recorded a demo, inside the studio before we recorded our demo, Alex playing the same piano that Elvis played in Studio B.  We also have some pictures of our students gathering on the dance floor at the Wild Horse Saloon to line dance and inside the Country Music Hall of Fame.

We are all beginning to dive into music for those concerts.  We hope that everyone enjoys their spring break and comes back on April 9th ready to work.

South Dearborn Comp

The Harrison HS Show Choir “Harrison Harmonics” performed in exhibition at the South Dearborn Opening Knight Showcase on Saturday.  Andrew Farringer was named “Outstanding Performer” for our group and Alex Mains was awarded the “Outstanding Soloists During a Show” for our entire high school division.  For those of you who are not familiar with the show choir competition circuit, for Alex to earn this honor during our inaugural competition performance surrounded so many seasoned competitors is quite a coup.  It was a thrilling night for Harrison.

Nashville News

If you are going on the high school choir trip to Nashville in March, now is the time to find your roommates.  Remember, we can have four people of the same gender per room and if you want a double or single room it will cost a little extra.  Final "settle up" costs will be known by Friday, February 3rd and final payment is due on Tuesday, February 7th.  This trip is entirely student funded and not financed by SLSD.

Semester ends next week

All HS Wildcat Concert Choir members and JS Singers are still able to turn in their floating assignments,  makeup assignments and song reviews (or other IWAA point notes) until the end of next week.  It will be hard to earn an A without turning in all of you assignments and garnering at least a few IWAA points.  Good luck!!
