Meet Mrs. Purdy

On Sunday, August 26th I will be taking my two boys to Hamilton County's Whitewater Park and Playground.  The boys and I will picnic and enjoy the park starting at 1pm.  Any parent or loved one who would like to meet me or my sons is welcome to stop by and say hi.
We enjoyed a wonderful first two days of school this week.  Students are enthused and ready to make some wonderful music.

Our first annual Show Choir Car Wash was held during Freshman Orientation and High School Open House tonight.  We had a wonderful time and made over $350 for music and supplies.  How could we not with stellar advertisements like this?  See everyone on Thursday for the first day of school.

Summer Show Choir Payments and Measurement Date

All show choir students for the 2012-2013 school year should pay their $200 fee before school begins.  This fee is used to purchase costumes and registration fees for competition.  We have found a better constructed black dress (dress number two) for our ladies for the same price.  So we will need a summer measurement for all of the ladies who can attend on Wednesday, July 25th at the Activity Center Music Room at 7pm.  See you there!

SCA

Two members of our show choir (Harrison Harmonics) attended the week long Showchoir Camps of America in Decatur, Il along with Mrs. Purdy.  Our music boosters generously volunteered to afford this opportunity for our dance/section captains to attend the week of learning.  At camp, our students were placed in a group with over 70 other top show choir students from around the country.  There were nine such groups and approximately 700 students at camp.  These students were taught music and choreography by the leading vocal and dance clinicians in the country.  In addition they were treated to a concert each night and a special interest session each day to help them focus on one particular aspect of their performance.  Can you spot Andrea and Johnny in these rehearsal pictures?

Looking Ahead

At this time, the schedule for Harrison Voices is Show Choir during high school zero bell, JS singers during 2nd bell, Wildcat Concert Choir during 3rd bell and Treble Cats during 4th bell.  Mrs. Purdy will be teaching creative writing and classical mythology after lunch.   Sixth graders will no longer be included in Harrison Voices.
I will publish our schedule of events for next year as soon as possible.  Enjoy the Summer.  Keep an eye out for our summer posts from Show Choir Camps of America.  Our Show Choir will start the year off with a car wash during the High School Open House on August 20th.  The proceeds from this Car Wash will help us purchase music.

Wrapping it Up

Our first year at Harrison Voices is coming to a close.  If you haven't had a chance yet to check progress book, please look before next week.  If your grade is not what you expect, you may have a missing assignment (the Showcase make-up, floating assignment and IWAA points seem to be the big culprits).  I will accept work all the way through Thursday of next week- but the high school and junior school are on special schedules, so finding me ay be a challenge.  On Tuesday I will make a round of all of the elementary schools at lunchtime to check my mailbox for late or make-up work.  Then I will be at the high school all afternoon for exam review.
